Generating single elements and homework

Use Cleo inside a lesson you are already writing — add one exercise, regenerate a weak one, or draft the homework.

Cleo is not only for lessons written from scratch. Most of the time you have a lesson that is nearly right and want one more exercise.

Add one element

In the editor, use Cleo where you would add an element. Say what you want — "a gap-fill on irregular past tenses" — and Cleo writes that element, in place, in the section you are working in. The rest of the material is untouched.

Regenerate an element

If an exercise is too easy, too long or just off, regenerate that element instead of rewriting it. Cleo replaces it with a fresh attempt at the same brief. Do it again if the second try is better.

Draft the homework

Cleo can write a homework section for an existing material, so the practice matches what you actually taught. Once it exists on the material's Homework tab, assigning it takes two clicks from the Homework page.

Good briefs

  • Name the exercise type you want — gap-fill, matching, true/false.
  • Say the level: "A2", "first-year undergraduate", "a nine-year-old".
  • Say how many items: "six sentences", not "some practice".
  • Mention what to avoid if a previous attempt went wrong.

Every generation counts against your monthly allowance, including regenerations. If you are polishing one exercise, editing by hand is usually quicker anyway.
